OUR SOLUTIONS

Instructional Coaching

STEM Strategies Group provides comprehensive and responsive support that is specifically tailored to the needs of individual educational communities. Our goal is to build the capacity of each organization to create and sustain systems and structures that promote academic excellence. Using an inquiry approach to teaching and learning, coaches at STEM Strategies Group use research-based strategies to provide school-wide and individual teacher professional development. Our holistic approach to supporting educators includes:

Content Coaching

STEM Strategies coaches utilize a four-pronged approach to provide individual teacher development support.
The four prongs to our coaching cycle are

Observations of classroom instruction that allow our coaches to develop a general sense of teachers’ practice and identify areas of support.

Planning meetings between the coach and teacher to deepen the teachers’ content knowledge, focus on support areas, engage in lesson plan revision, and discuss the coaching model for the lesson

Active Coaching in the classroom in which the coach research-based coaching strategies to build teachers’ capacity to implement high-leverage pedagogical practices.

Debrief meetings between the coach and teacher to outline and practice next steps for teacher development and student learning.]

Professional Development

STEM Strategies coaches develop and curate school-wide and department-specific professional development workshops to build professional learning communities. We incorporate the latest research into our professional developments to ensure our practitioners are abreast of the knowledge driving the educational landscape, and their pedagogy is aligned to high leverage practices that promote student achievement.

Leadership Coaching

STEM Strategies Group recognizes the importance of leadership development to organizational success. Driving teacher success is our ability to deeply engage leaders in the inquiry and practices necessary to create, assess, and adjust systems and structures that lead to strong math instruction, grade-appropriate content, and high expectations for all students daily. While each leader deals with a unique set of strengths, challenges, and needs, there are four key domains in which our coaches support our leaders to ensure improved student outcomes. As a result, we propose to support leaders in:

Vision Development to develop and communicate a unified vision and responsibility for excellent instruction and effective implementation of curriculum.

Culture Development to develop and manage a strong instructional culture and content teams that take responsibility for and invest in the necessary practices, systems, and structures that lead to improved student outcomes.

Inquiry by building leaders’ capacity to model a commitment to growing in knowledge and skill by consistently engaging in an inquiry process that identifies challenges and solutions to increase the tenacity and willingness of discipline teams to implement high quality curriculum and pedagogical practices.

Teacher Development to ensure a collective approach that utilizes key members of the leadership team to consistently monitor, share direct feedback, and provide support that improves or fine-tunes instruction.

Data-Driven Instruction

STEM Strategies Group supports school communities in embedding data-driven instruction (DDI) into the fabric of their instructional practices. DDI encapsulates a robust set of ongoing practices that focus on assessing student learning, analyzing assessment data, and modifying instruction in response to student assessment data in intentional cycles. STEM Strategies coaches support practitioners in using DDI to create data-based classrooms where student data is regularly collected, analyzed, and discussed to make data-informed decisions in instruction. We engage in DDI through a focus on

Data Analysis to analyze student summative assessment data for standards mastery and develop action plans to respond to student data.

Data Day Professional Developments to facilitate school-wide or department-specific workshops focused on building  teachers’ capacity to analyze student data and develop action plans to respond to the data.

Curriculum Modification to make modifications to curriculum maps and instruction in response to student data.

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Coaching

STEM Strategies Group aims to advance diversity, equity and inclusion in schools. Our coaches define DEI teacher and leadership development around practices that advance diversity, equity and inclusion in schools with fidelity and urgency. Our instructional coaching and professional developments on DEI are guided by the latest research on effective DEI methodology.

We develop schools through the lens of studies, such as the Opportunity Myth, to ensure that all students are given access to strong instruction, grade-appropriate assignments, high academic expectations, and deep engagement. We support educational communities in building equitable school systems through a focus on the pillars of New York State's DEI Framework, developing culturally responsive classrooms, school-wide culture building, developing rigorous instruction, and creating environments with high expectations.

Curriculum and Assessment Development

At STEM Strategies we develop standards-aligned curriculum and assessment resources tailored to the needs of individual districts and schools. We ensure that our curriculum resources build teacher content knowledge and student conceptual understanding, support teacher development, and prepare students for end-of-year state exams. Coupled with our curriculum resources, our formative and summative assessments mirror the rigor and expectations of the standard and state exams. Districts and schools utilize STEM Strategies’ assessments to assess student mastery of grade-level standards and develop action plans to support students’ continued growth. Our curriculum and assessment resource development include:

Unit and Lesson Plans that foster student understanding and mastery of grade-level standards and concepts.

Problem-based Projects that provide students the opportunity to build their understanding from and apply their learning to real-world contexts.

Curriculum Maps and Scope & Sequences that provide teachers timeline guidance to complete their curriculum. These resources  include learning targets, lesson goals, and teacher facilitation notes to support teacher instruction of a high-quality curriculum.

Assessments that provide data on student mastery of grade-level standards. We develop rigorous and standards-aligned mid-unit, end-of-unit, interim, diagnostic, and growth assessments to support districts and schools in assessing and responding to student learning.
